New stop signs will be installed Friday near Kansas University traffic booths to help slow vehicles and increase pedestrian safety.

The new stop signs will be placed at traffic booths at:

¢ The western end of Jayhawk Boulevard for eastbound traffic near the Chi Omega fountain.

¢ Sunflower Road and Sunnyside Avenue on the south side of campus.

¢ Jayhawk Boulevard and 14th Street on the east side of campus.

¢ Near Mississippi Street and Memorial Drive on the north side of campus.

Each stop sign will require incoming traffic to stop - even when campus is open at night and on weekends.

A "stop ahead" sign with flags will be placed ahead of each sign to alert motorists.

oldvet, just like the cars. Feel free to ignore the rest of the infractions drivers routinely commit. Wow. Bikers go through stop signs...thanks for the news flash. But Faka gets the cigar. KU doesn't care a whit about bike facilities, just more parking. Now they'll be parked in front of the bookstore.

A roundabout combined with a stop sign. Brilliant! Double good!

But still no bike paths, or even bike lanes on the main roads. We're probably the only major university that doesn't do more to facilitate bike-riders. In fact it seems like people who ride bikes are treated more like criminals - whenever someone gets pegged by a car or bus it's always "the bikers fault."

"The new stop signs will be placed at traffic booths at the west end of Jayhawk Boulevard for eastbound traffic near the Chi Omega fountain"Yeah, that's not going to back traffic up in front of Jayhawk Bookstore at 5 p.m. and before/during/after basketball games. That intersection is a cluster anyway - by my estimation, this won't help matters.

Stupid. Let's just put a stop sign at every intersection in this town why don't we?! That is what is going on around campus this summer and it is stupid. Stupid stupid stupid.Guess the parking dept didnt like me giving them a big FU about their BS 'didnt stop at the booth' ticket when there wasn't a stop sign, lol.

Just one more stop sign for the bicycle riders to blow through without a thought of coming to a stop...
