Eudora Boy Scout Troop 64 hosted an Eagle Scout reunion-luncheon on July 26 at the Eudora United Methodist Church.
Fifty people attended, including 15 Eudora Eagle Scouts. Another Eagle Scout present was Roy Lytle. Lytle is Troop 64's committee chairman and earned his Eagle rank as a member of a troop in Junction City.
Also in attendance were former Troop 64 Scoutmasters Leland "Pete" Lawson, Jim Guy and Mel Kleinschmidt. Also present were Elva O'Berg Kindred, widow of John O'Berg, former Scoutmaster, and her son, Nevin O'Berg; and Charles Slaughter, former assistant Scoutmaster. Glenn Jackson, Troop 64's present Scoutmaster, acted as the emcee for the program.
Attendees viewed Scouting displays showing recent and past troop activities and ate a luncheon prepared by Genevieve Guy, Amye Scott and Helen Everley.
Eagle Scouts attending included Emmett Wright, Philip Everley, Michael Lenahan, John Scott, David Slaughter, Glenn Jackson, Robert Slaughter, Michael Kelly, Lee Scott, Jamie Guy, Kenan Staples, Bryce Landon, Josh Hartley, A.J. Lavery and David Lewis.
Troop 64's first four Eagle Scouts were Emmett Wright, Philip Everley, Michael Lenahan and John Scott. Wright, Everley and Lenahan achieved the honor 50 years ago in 1958. Scott earned his Eagle rank in 1959. A.J. Lavery and David Lewis, the troop's newest Eagle Scouts present, earned their ranks in 2007. Joseph Walker, the troop's newest Eagle Scout, is working as staff at Camp Naish and was unable to attend.
Also in attendance at the luncheon were Glenn Wineinger, Joyce Wineinger, Martha Slaughter, Duane Gentleman, Nathan Gentleman, Anna Lenahan, Ranessa Basler, Kathy Schaulis, Connie Kleinschmidt, Amye Scott, Genevieve Guy, Helen Everley, Arlene Lawson, Jeff Lewis, Melissa Lytle, Jenna Lytle, Autumn Staples, Jonas Staples, Eden Staples, David Oaks, Mary Jane Wright, James Slaughter, David Wright, Andrew Wright, Ashley Wright, Abby Wright and Melanie Scott.
The event was organized and coordinated by Jim Guy and John Scott. Troop 64 is community oriented and is sponsored by the Eudora Lions Club. The troop meets at 7 p.m. Mondays at the Eudora Learning Center, 10th and Main streets.
