Jodie and David Saultz, Bonner Springs, announce the birth of their son, Klayton Paul Saultz, born June 24, 2008, at Olathe Medical Center.

His maternal grandparents are Rick and Gloria Darrow, Easton, and Lowell Orender, Osage City.

His paternal grandparents are Chip and Sandy Saultz, Bonner Springs.

Great-grandparents are Betty Shope, Allen; Dorothy Mast, Osage City; Clara Darrow, Leavenworth, and the late Dick Darrow; Carolyn Peterson, Bonner Springs, and the late Paul Peterson; Tommy and Mary Stiles, Climax Springs, Mo.; and Robin Saultz, Belton, Mo., and the late Rick Saultz.

¢Artwork created by children in first through sixth grade of Corpus Christi PREP (Parish Religious Education Program) has been on display since July 1 at the West Sixth Street Branch of Douglas County Bank, Sixth Street and Folks Road. Tiles from Session 1 were displayed in July. Tiles from Session 2 are on display now through most of August.

¢Several Lawrence scholastic chess players won trophies at the US Junior Open Championships July 25-27 in Lindsborg. Roy Wedge, Lawrence High School, won the sixth-place trophy in the Under-21 age section, while Sam Stephens, Quail Run School, took seventh, and Eddie Wilson, Cordley School, took 10th in the Under-15 section.

Class trophy winners: Sam Beaulieu, Cordley, first for age 12 in U15; Jackson McCabe-Maher, Cordley, first for age 8 in the Under-11 section; Aaron Simon, Quail Run, first for under-1200 rating in U15; and George Wedge, Cordley, first for under-600 rating in U15. More than 40 top players from seven states competed at the event hosted by the Karpov Chess School in Lindsborg. The 2007 World Open Champion, Grandmaster Varuzhan Akobian, played a simultaneous exhibition match to kick off the weekend event.

¢Ashleigh Pitts, Lawrence, was named to the dean’s list for the 2008 spring semester at the University of Delaware, Newark, Del., by earning a grade point average of 3.33 or higher.

¢Michael McDonald, Lawrence, was named to the honor roll for the spring 2008 semester at the University of Oklahoma in Norman by earning a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
