‘Green Baby’ book offers family tips

New and seasoned parents will love “Green Baby,” by Susannah Marriott, which offers everything from superfoods for breast-feeding (citrus fruit) to a recipe for baby cleansing lotion (made with chamomile tea bags).

¢ To get rid of dust mites and wool moths, put soft toys in “a plastic bag and freeze for a few days, then machine-wash with eco washing powder at 140 degrees or 85 degrees for wool.”

¢ “In a traffic jam, air pollution is three times higher in the car than on the sidewalk.”

¢ Turn off electronics. “We waste an estimated one billion dollars’ worth of electricity each year by leaving the TV and electronic gadgets on standby.”

¢ Look for kid’s books that are made from non-metal inks, recycled and chlorine-free paper, and water-based glues.

¢ Baby wipes. You can go “light green”: buy unbleached, biodegradable and flushable wipes; “mid green”: make your own wipes; or “deep green”: wipe baby with recycled toilet paper, dispose of it in toilet, then wipe with wet cloth.
