Artists sought for kettle project

The Salvation Army is looking for artists to decorate kettles, such as the one above.

The Salvation Army is looking for artists to give a new twist on their iconic red kettles.

The Kansas and Western Missouri Division of the organization is seeking proposals from artists to decorate oversized, fiberglass kettles. The kettles will be unveiled at the annual City Lights event at Barney Allis Plaza in mid-November. They then will be displayed throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area during the holidays.

Artists are asked to submit their proposals by Aug. 29. For more information, contact Kim Gasper at 816-968-0372, or visit www.salarmy-mokan.org.

The kettles have been a Christmas tradition since 1891, with proceeds going toward the Salvation Army’s programs.
