From the Lawrence Daily World for April 29, 1908: Today in Gov. Hoch's office in Topeka is an important meeting of regents and representatives of state schools. Their feeling is that the Legislature needs to do a far better job of funding these schools, particularly the common schools of Kansas, which may not get as much money as other higher institutions. ... If you have enough money you can establish a scholarship in almost anything. The latest scholarship at the university here is in the science of bread-baking.
