Lawrence’s downtown developer agreed to most of the 15 changes in its redevelopment plan recommended by the city but differed on a couple of points, including the amount of land the city had to acquire for the project. Dean Palos, a city planner, said he was compiling a report on the cost estimates but that the figures wouldn’t be available for about a week.
Athletes United for Peace, a Lawrence-based group that had brought some Soviet Union athletes to the Kansas Relays, wound up about $16,000 in the red. Expenses had run about $20,000 and only $4,000 had been contributed by the group to date to pay for the appearance of the Soviets.
