Jayhawks’ Thiry fires 77 at Big 12 women’s golf

? Freshman Grace Thiry fired a second-round 77 to lead Kansas University’s women’s golf team at the Big 12 Championship on Saturday. While the Jayhawks improved their team score by eight shots, they fell two places to ninth after two rounds of the tournament.

Thiry moved into a tie for 24th place individually with a 163 total, while teammate Emily Powers is the top Jayhawk after two rounds, tied for 20th at 162. Annie Giangroso is tied for 35th at 166, Meghna Bal is tied for 40th at 167 and Sydney Wilson is in 52nd at 172.

Host Oklahoma State, aided by four players in the top six of the individual standings, leads the team race. The Cowgirls shot a 302, the tournament’s best team round on Saturday, and have a 605 total. Texas A&M is in second, 14 strokes back at 619. Missouri (636), Texas (640) and Nebraska (643) round out the top five. Kansas is at 658, but just eight shots out of sixth place.
