Old Home Town – 100 years ago
From the Lawrence Daily World for April 26, 1908: The report of the Athletic Board at the university shows a balance of $772.97 for the current year of operation, a profit for probably the first time in history. Athletics usually puts a school “in the hole,” and KU was, until recently, far behind the game financially. Disbursements were about $9,700. The biggest receipts came from $2 student tickets and the Missouri football game that brought back $3,715.36 from St. Joseph, Mo., where the game was moved this year. Basketball receipts ran during the season $127.25. Officials are pleased at the new report. . . . The ministerial alliance here has declared that photographer studios must remain closed on Sunday as they have been for several months.
