Storms cause a few problems

Wednesday afternoon’s storm disabled a Douglas County outdoor storm warning siren at Eagle Bend Golf Course.

Douglas County Emergency Management Director Teri Smith said lightning struck the siren at 1245 E. 1000 Road about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The siren will not be repaired until Friday.

“We encourage people to tune to local media outlets or listen to a weather radio to stay informed,” Smith said.

In another weather-related incident, the Community Mercantile, 901 Iowa, was affected by a power outage for about an hour and 15 minutes when lightning struck a transformer at 1:30 p.m.

There were also reports of lightning striking trees.
