From the Lawrence Daily World for April 24, 1908: "Ida M. Tarbell, the noted magazine writer and editor, will be here to speak to the university school of journalism. She will be accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. William Allen White of Emporia. Miss Tarbell is the 'investigative' reporter who has done so much to bring John D. Rockefeller and his petroleum operations into focus and often into the courts. Miss Tarbell is considered a true pioneer in the field of journalism."
