Old Home Town – 40 years ago

Progress on the new $650,000 First Presbyterian Church here was reported as good for the site along West 23rd Street. A July opening was being planned.

The Kaw Drainage Board agreed to share the cost of a $5,700 road project north of the $5.3 million Lawrence levee with the city and Grant Township. There were hopes the local levee system could be improved to its strongest status since the 1951 flood.
