Oh no! No more Nomo after Royals designate him

? Hideo Nomo’s career in the majors might be over.

The Kansas City Royals designated the right-hander for assignment Sunday, perhaps ending his 12 seasons in the big leagues.

Nomo was among the Japanese pioneers in the big leagues and threw two no-hitters in the majors. He was trying to make a comeback at the age of 39 after having elbow surgery in 2006, but pitched only three times and 41â3 innings for the Royals this year. Nomo gave nine runs on 10 hits and four walks for an 18.69 ERA.

“I told him how much we appreciated his efforts and the energy that he brings in a very quiet and humble way,” Royals manager Trey Hillman said.
