Search for canoeist now classified recovery effort
Rescuers searching for a canoeist who went missing after a boating accident yesterday said they do not believe he is alive.
David Ellis, of the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, said the search for Shaun H. Shaw, 26, De Soto, is now classified as a recovery effort.
Shaw’s canoe capsized at about 5:50 p.m. Saturday, as he and two friends were boating on the Kansas River.
The group was canoeing near North 1500 Road and East 2400 Road, near the Douglas County and Johnson County line, when the canoe capsized. Two men were found on shore at a boat ramp and were reported to be in good condition.
