Boston – Manny Ramirez hit a two-run homer after slumping slugger David Ortiz tied it with an RBI single in the eighth inning in a come-from-behind victory for the Red Sox.
Dustin Pedroia got it going in the eighth with a double off the Green Monster against Joaquin Benoit with one out.
Ortiz followed with a hard single that bounced off the glove of diving second baseman Ian Kinsler and into short right field, scoring Pedroia. Ramirez then hit an 0-1 pitch over the Monster seats for his sixth of the season and 496th of his career.
Javier Lopez escaped a two-on, two-out jam by getting Josh Hamilton – the only batter he faced – to line to center and earned the win. Jonathan Papelbon got the final three outs for the save.
Jon Lester pitched 61â3 innings and allowed three runs and 10 hits for Boston.
Blue Jays 3, Tigers 2
Toronto – Alex Rios homered, Dustin McGowan won for the first time this season, and Toronto snapped a six-game home losing streak.
Toronto’s previous home win was April 6 in the wrapup of a three-game sweep of Boston.
Twins 3, Indians 0
Minneapolis – Justin Morneau hit a two-run homer, and Nick Blackburn made it stand up with 72â3 scoreless innings for the Twins.
Orioles 6, Yankees 0
Baltimore – Brian Burres and Jim Johnson combined on a six-hitter for Baltimore.
Burres gave up five hits and had two strikeouts in 52â3 innings, and Johnson allowed the Yankees just one hit.
Rays 5, White Sox 0
St. Petersburg, Fla – Andy Sonnanstine threw a three-hitter for his first career complete game.
The White Sox got just three singles, including a bunt hit, and didn’t get a runner past second base.
Angels 4, Mariners 1
Anaheim, Calif. – Ervin Santana allowed three hits over eight innings and retired 20 of his first 21 batters.
Santana (3-0) struck out eight and walked none for Anaheim, improving his all-time home record to 26-9.
