4-H and FCE news
Lone Star 4-H Club conducted its monthly meeting March 10 at Lone Star Church of the Brethren. Christine Caffey, president, called the meeting to order, and song leaders Rowan Plinsky, Bethany Ledom and Megan Williams led the group in a song. For roll call, members responded to the question, “Who is your favorite college basketball team?”
Mary Berg, community leader, reported that County Club Days were March 1 at South Junior High School in Lawrence. Lone Star 4-H Club had eight attendees. Plinsky advanced to regional competition on March 15 at Lawrence High School. Berg also spoke about the club’s annual fundraiser, which is working a concession stand at the annual Swap Meet in Lawrence on May 2-4. The club’s finance committee is to meet in a separate planning session to prepare for this event.
Berg reminded club members that there was a change in the market animal classes at the fair this year. Members can now show up to three market animals of a species.
In old business, members were reminded about 4-H on April 6 at Lone Star Church of the Brethren. A potluck dinner was to follow the church service for those who would like to attend. A donation to Lone Star Church of the Brethren was voted on and passed.
Under new business, volunteers were asked for to fill the day manager position at the Douglas County Fair. A reminder was given about 4-H Camp June 14-17 at Rock Springs. After the business meeting, the club pledge and motto were recited and the meeting was adjourned.
