Ash floats across portions of Lawrence
If you thought there was something burning this morning, you were right.
A controlled burning at the Baker Wetlands caused a hazy sky south of Lawrence and put the smell of ash in the air over some parts of the city.
Baker University professors and students conducted the burning, something that is done every year about this time. The manmade fire is a way of refertilizing the ground, said William Miller, assistant professor of biology at Baker. About 200 acres was burned.
