KU student finalist for piano fellowship award

A Kansas University doctoral student has been named one of five finalists for the American Pianists Association Classical Fellowship Awards.

Michael Kirkendoll, a native of Andover, is a finalist for the prestigious fellowship, which carries with it a CD recording, two years of management and cash awards valued at $75,000.

Kirkendoll will participate in two events to compete for one of the two fellowships. During Premiere Week, in September, he will perform a solo recital in Indianapolis, which is home to the pianists’ organization, as well as present outreach concerts in the Indianapolis area.

In April 2009, during Discovery Week, he’ll play a chamber recital, Lieder recital and solo program, and also will participate in community concerts. The winners will be announced in April 2009.

The awards are held every three years.
