Damage reported from Thursday night storm

Some parts of Douglas and Leavenworth Counties are cleaning up this morning from a storm that rolled through the area Thursday night.

Douglas County Emergency Management Director Teri Smith said her office received one report of damage to a structure and that was to the roof of the Hampton Inn, 2300 W. Sixth St.

Smith said storm spotters throughout the county, including one stationed at the Lied Center, reported wind gusts of 60 miles per hour around 7:30 p.m., when the storm blew through.

The majority of the damage reported was from downed tree limbs, mainly in rural parts of the county, Smith said.

“We also had some damage to tents (where people were selling KU merchandise)” Smith said.

In Tonganoxie, a fire department official said there were a couple of reports of roof damage. County officials were called into remove a barn that had blown on to Dempsey Road.
