Wrestling winners: Andrew Denning, a South Junior High seventh-grader, and Tristan Star, a Schwiegler fifth-grader, recently competed in the Kansas State Kids Wrestling Championships in Topeka. Denning placed sixth in 12-and-under 110 punds. Star placed secnd in 10-and-under 79 pound.
Star also competed in the Brute-adidas National Championships in Kansas City, Mo., on April 4-6. Star won the national championship and all-American status in the fifth-grade 80 pounds group. Star also was named the fifth grade Most Outstanding Wrestler forthe tournament.
Both Denning and Star wrestle with the Kaw Valley Kids Wrestling Club whose head coach is Darin Denning of Lawrence.
