The Douglas County Commission made its first acquisition of property east of the courthouse for the proposed county building program. Two residential properties were bought for $30,480.

John H. Emick became the 48th mayor of Lawrence by a vote of the City Commission. He succeeded Dick Raney. Clark Morton was to serve as vice mayor.
