Hospital releases victim of assault

A Lawrence man who was beaten early Tuesday morning in downtown has been released from the hospital.

The 25-year-old suffered facial injuries and a small brain hemorrhage, friends said. After the apparent beating, the man – who works at nearby Replay Lounge, 946 Mass. – was found lying in the street about 4:30 a.m. near the northeast corner of 10th and Massachusetts streets.

According to the police report, the man told police a vehicle full of five men approached him. One of the five asked for directions. Then, one of the occupants hit him.

The victim refused an ambulance, but friends later took him to the Lawrence Memorial Hospital emergency room, and he was transferred to KU Hospital, where he was treated before he was discharged Wednesday.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
