A Lawrence man who was beaten early Tuesday morning in downtown has been released from the hospital.

The 25-year-old suffered facial injuries and a small brain hemorrhage, friends said. After the apparent beating, the man - who works at nearby Replay Lounge, 946 Mass. - was found lying in the street about 4:30 a.m. near the northeast corner of 10th and Massachusetts streets.

According to the police report, the man told police a vehicle full of five men approached him. One of the five asked for directions. Then, one of the occupants hit him.

The victim refused an ambulance, but friends later took him to the Lawrence Memorial Hospital emergency room, and he was transferred to KU Hospital, where he was treated before he was discharged Wednesday.

Police continue to investigate the incident.

great point Crossfire. Im glad Seth is on the mend and my thoughts, prayers and now my money are with him. He did not deserve this but I am glad he got the help that he needed in time and that he still has a bright future.

Just lucky that he did not refuse the help in Topeka. There he would have been cuffed and tazzed and left for dead. (for his own good)

cross, he just wanted to avoid paying for an ambulance. His friends took him right away. But I get your point.

I'm glad to hear that he's on the road to recovery. I hope they catch the cowards that ambushed him.

Well, I don't know too many of the homeless who have vehicles. Maybe they sleep in them, but I'm guessing this was done by some drunks, maybe the ones he prevented from climbing into the Replay. Just some good ole boys who thought they would beat up some freaky Lawrence guys. Of course, they only pick on someone alone. Real cowards.

Unfortunately, it's been my direct observation of several occurrences where the violence has been directed at the homeless and locals, and the perpetrators were frat boys leaving the Brothers bar or driving around. One such observance was the beating of Jeffrey, another happened to a musician friend of mine right in front of us on 10th st.

PS .. many thanks to those who have started a fund for this man.. he's a good person who deserves the help!

Can anyone post a description of the perps or the kind of car they were driving? With 40,000 people in the area that night, it may ring a bell with someone and generate useful tips.

Haiku, unfortunately, this happened at 4:30 in the morning. He had just finished helping with clean-up at the Replay, so there weren't that many people around. I don't know if there is an official description being released, or even if there were any witnesses who were able to give a description.
