About 1,000 people took part in a community memorial service here for Martin Luther King Jr., slain civil rights leader. A vigil followed a peaceful march featuring singing, prayers and silent meditation. There had been violent protests here after the killing. A number of cities had experienced serious trouble and some 25 deaths had resulted.
