Jayhawks finish in third

? Despite strong Oklahoma winds, the Kansas University women’s golf team posted a third-round 294 to finish in third place at the 30th annual Susie Maxwell Berning Classic on Monday.

Led by sophomore Emily Powers, the Jayhawks improved four spots in the team leaderboard from Sunday’s first and second rounds to close regular-season play.

Powers repeated her second-round 73, Monday, to post a final score of 223, good enough to tie for 14th place.

Finishing two strokes behind Powers, freshman Meghna Bal shot a 71 in the final round to tie for 17th place with a final score of 225.

Tournament host Oklahoma claimed both individual and team titles as the Sooners led the 16-team field with a composite score of 885.

Sophomore Camilla Svensson (227, 21st), freshman Grace Thiry and senior Annie Giangrosso rounded out the KU scorecard, recording final scores of 229 and 230, respectively.

Freshman Sydney Wilson, who was competing unattached, fired a tournament-best round of 76 to end the day in a tie for 63rd place with a final score of 240.

Up next, KU moves to the postseason beginning with the Big 12 Championship, which is set for April 25-27 at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla.
