Reports of violence, arson, shooting and looting were pouring in from many cities, including Greater Kansas City, in the aftermath of the Martin Luther King killing. Seven hundred persons marched quietly and peacefully in Lawrence in a tribute to King. So far there had been no local violence such as that plaguing other cities.
