Sick of taxes

To the editor:

Linda Robinson states, “I would think the students would be worth a cup of coffee a month.” I agree with Linda, a student’s education is priceless, but let’s get real!

The issue is increased taxes and the solid principles that surround those who have to pay it. Lawrence residents, especially those of us who are on fixed incomes, are sick and tired of tax increases. Raising taxes, no matter what the reason, should be the last resort, and in this economic climate, those proponents of such nonsense should not have the nerve to use this approach as an answer to money needs.

We all have to live within our budgets! Mr. Passman, Linda Robinson and Co. should cut costs, reward the truly professionally directed teachers, give more students per teacher, appoint the class standouts as helpers and other pertinent measures for budget control.

Tax-raising should be “off-limits.” Living within our means is appropriate.

Eugene F. Reding,
