From the Lawrence Daily World for April 5, 1908: “Postmaster Irving Hill has given figures showing that the local post office had its business increase near 13 percent the past year. Total business (outgoing mail only) has grown from $28,860 in 1898 to $45,697 in the business year that ended April 1. : The Democrats in our county have been busy of late and seem to be organizing their party in an effort to make it mean something again in our area. The competition should be good for the Republicans who tend to get lazy and inefficient when they are not challenged.
