Sexist ‘style’

To the editor:

Last Saturday, my wife and I stopped in for lunch at our favorite Kansas City restaurant on the Plaza. As we were seated, the hostess told me I would need to remove my baseball cap. I pointed out a young woman sitting across the aisle from us wearing a similar baseball cap and asked why she could wear hers, and I was informed, “style.” She went on to say, “that a woman could wear one because it was a woman’s style to wear a hat.” I haven’t experienced this sort of out-of-date sexist discrimination in decades and I’m 62 years old.

Maybe it’s time for us to find another favorite restaurant.
