Spring training a hit

April 1, 2008

— A record 3,692,125 fans attended spring training games this year, topping last year's mark of 3,421,055. The average crowd was 8,026, the commissioner's office said Monday, topping the previous high of 7,709 set in 1994 - before a 7 1/2-month strike. Baseball commissioner Bud Selig predicts the 30 major-league teams will combine to draw 80 million during the regular season for the first time this year.
