Ohio Street work set to begin this week

Reconstruction work of Ohio Street from Sixth to Eighth streets begins this week.

The 700 block of Ohio Street on Thursday will close to through traffic. The closure includes the intersection of Seventh and Ohio streets. The block is expected to be closed until mid-May, weather permitting.

Once the 700 block work is completed, the 600 block of Ohio Street will close and the intersection of Seventh and Ohio Streets will remain closed.

Eighty percent of the reconstruction project is funded as a KDOT Transportation Enhancement Program project. The city is responsible for 20 percent, which is $134,000. The project is expected to be completed in August.

The project includes removing the existing asphalt overlay, removing and salvaging existing layers of brick then removing, cleaning and replacing stone curbing.
