Senior Safety Series to offer financial tips

Barbara Braa, of Corner Bank, will open a Senior Safety Series on Tuesday with a session that addresses financial safety.

Braa’s presentation – set for 10 a.m. at Babcock Place, 1700 Mass. – will cover strategies for preventing fraud, tips for managing credit, ways to recognize legitimate solicitations and how to choose banking options that can protect individuals and their family members.

Financial exploitation accounts for 15 percent of elder-abuse cases, officials say. The FBI reports that seniors are considered likely targets for fraud schemes, including health insurance fraud and telemarketing scams.

The Senior Safety Series will continue with events at 10 a.m. Oct. 9 and 16, also at Babcock Place. Each program is free and open to the public.
