KU men’s cross country receives votes in poll

After a two week layoff, the Kansas University men’s cross country team is receiving votes in this week’s U.S. Track & Field Coaches Association Poll.

Coach Stanley Redwine is not reading too much into the voting. He said he was looking much more at the performance of the team than how voters judge the Jayhawks.

“It’s what people perceive Kansas to be,” Redwine said. “If that’s where they think we are, then that’s where they think we are. I don’t care if it’s very good or very bad. A poll doesn’t determine our destination.

“To me it’s just something, but it might be a point of interest to someone else. We are rated on how we perform, so that’s what we are looking for – performances.”

The Big 12 Conference has four teams ranked and three in the top 10. Colorado is No. 2, Oklahoma State eighth and Texas 10th. Iowa State is the other Big 12 team ranked at No. 29. Texas A&M also is receiving votes.

Both the Kansas men and women’s teams will race this weekend at the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn., on Saturday.
