Fielder youngest to hit 50 homers

Brewers 9, Cardinals 1

Milwaukee – Prince Fielder became the youngest major-league player ever to hit 50 home runs in a season, connecting twice in Milwaukee’s victory over St. Louis.

Rockies 9, Dodgers 7

Los Angeles – Troy Tulowitzki homered to drive in the tying and go-ahead runs, and Colorado beat Los Angeles for its ninth straight victory and eliminated the Dodgers from postseason contention.

Marlins 4, Cubs 2

Miami – Eager to sew up the NL Central, Chicago instead managed only two hits in eight innings against Dontrelle Willis and lost to Florida.

Nationals 10, Mets 9

New York – A six-run ninth inning wasn’t enough for the Mets. An improbable rally fell just short when Paul Lo Duca flied out with a runner on third. With the Mets in dire need of a strong pitching performance, Tom Glavine was hit hard, and the Mets lost their fifth straight home game. They got help elsewhere, though.

Braves 10, Phillies 6

Philadelphia – Mark Teixeira hit a three-run homer, and Chipper Jones had a two-run shot, helping Atlanta keep its slim playoff hopes alive.

Pirates 6, Diamondbacks 5

Pittsburgh – Pinch-hitter Josh Phelps singled in the go-ahead run with two outs in the eighth.

Astros 8, Reds 5

Cincinnati – Hunter Pence homered, and Houston, aided by two Cincinnati errors, rallied from a four-run deficit.

Padres 6, Giants 4

San Francisco – Brian Giles hit a go-ahead three-run homer with two outs in the ninth, and San Diego ended a four-game losing streak.
