Cougars blast Atchison
The South Cougar freshman football team made a quick statement against Atchison on Monday at Lawrence High. An interception, a long completion and a short-yard run put the Cougars up early in the first quarter on the way to a 42-6 victory.
“We ran the ball well,” coach Kyle Stucky. “We just played real well all around.”
South (2-3) racked up 22 points in the first quarter alone, behind touchdowns from Alex Laughlin, Clarke Cunningham and Austin Flory.
Quarterback Chris Gaston threw a pair of touchdowns including a 40-yard strike to Trenton Sheppard.
The Cougars also got touchdowns from Marcus Rystrom and Aaron Gile.
South plays host to Central Oct. 4 at Lawrence High.
