The Douglas County RSVP program seeks volunteers ages 55 and older to assist with upcoming special events, including the Douglas County Emergency Preparedness Fair, Make a Difference Day and a variety of holiday-related events.

Immediate volunteer needs

¢ Health Care Access Clinic needs volunteers for a women’s health event.

The event will have numerous pampering activities, free clinical breast exams, health information for women and games and activities for children.

¢ The Lawrence After School’s Teen Events Committee seeks volunteers to help with a dodge ball tournament on Saturday.

Volunteers are needed from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the East Lawrence Recreation Center to help with check-in, refereeing, supervising and distributing food.

¢ Volunteers are sought to help with child care from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday evenings at a support group for women with substance abuse issues. Volunteers will be working with children who have recently reunited with their biological mothers.

¢ Hospice will hold volunteer training on Oct. 10 through 13 for people interested in being a companion to assist a person nearing the end of his or her life.

¢ Volunteers are needed to help with the activities surrounding the Aaron Douglas exhibition opening and national conference Friday and Saturday on the Kansas University campus.

¢ The River City Reading Festival is looking for volunteers to help with various literary events at the Lawrence Arts Center on Oct. 14.

Volunteers will help with setup and cleanup, portray characters, greet and check in participants and help with children’s activities.
