Exercise for two

If you like to bike for exercise, why not bring along your dog and keep him fit as well?

It sounds like a great idea, but you must be careful, as it could be dangerous to you, your dog, nearby pedestrians or other bicyclists. First, get your vet’s OK.

Experts say you should choose a low-traffic area and practice in advance for very short distances, as juggling your bike and the leash takes some skill. Teach your dog to listen to your commands. Be attentive to your dog’s stamina so overheating does not occur.

There are bike attachments on the market that absorb tension on the leash from a sudden pull that could cause an accident. Always bring water for yourself and your dog.
