Trinity spanks Veritas

? Veritas Christian School’s football team put up pretty good numbers during its game Friday with Wichita Trinity.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, Trinity’s numbers were considerably better.

The Vikings scored three touchdowns in a span of 1:06 at the end of the first half and steamrolled to a 70-26 eight-man victory.

“From an offensive standpoint, we did a lot of good things,” Veritas coach Doug Bennett said. “We just played atrocious defense. Poor tackling. They have a very speedy running back, and part of it was that speed, but we just had poor tackling. We were barely slowing him down.”

Trinity effectively won it just before intermission, when it turned a 22-14 lead into a 42-14 edge in just over a minute.

Veritas’ Michael Kay completed 21 of 32 passes for 204 yards and had 28 carries for 121 yards, and Jeremiah Johnson had 12 catches for 150 yards.

Veritas (0-4) will travel to Salina St. John’s Military on Friday.
