K.C. claims first baseman off waivers from Rays

? The Kansas City Royals claimed first baseman Wes Bankston off outright waivers from Tampa Bay on Friday and moved left-handed pitcher Odalis Perez to the 60-day disabled list.

Perez was moved from the 15-day disabled list to make room on the 40-man roster for Bankston, who spent the entire season with Triple-A Durham in the Devil Rays organization. Bankston hit .238 (93-for-390) with 15 home runs, 59 RBIs, 23 doubles and 46 runs scored in 104 games this season.

Bankston was the Devil Rays’ fourth-round selection in the 2002 draft out of Plano East High in Plano, Texas.
