Good move

We probably haven’t heard the last from former Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline.

Johnson County District Attorney Phill Kline has announced he won’t run for any office in 2008, but somehow it seems likely that media outlets should remember that’s Phill with two l’s. Being out of public office doesn’t mean Kline will be out of the news.

In fact, other platforms may offer far better opportunities for Kline to pursue his passionate views concerning abortion and other social issues. Some might argue that Kline spent too much time and effort in the state attorney general’s office – and perhaps in his current office – pursuing his personal agenda, rather than the broader interests of the state or county.

It’s easy to envision the talented Kline working with a conservative think tank or leading an anti-abortion activist group – roles that better reflect his personal philosophy.

Elected office isn’t for everyone, and it seems that Kline has felt confined by the demands of some of the offices he has held. His decision to get out of elective politics may be a good move – for everyone concerned.
