More than 125 members of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) attended the group’s Fall Fun Day on Sept. 8 at the Church of The Brethren in Topeka. The theme was “Make Your Own Kind of Music.”

The event consisted of contests, fundraisers for the chapters and the presentation of awards for members’ weight loss achievements during the past eight months.

Special guest was Beverly Bednasek, Kansas coordinator, and Margaret Pierce, Kansas state royalty. Pierce shared her success story of her losing 104 pounds. TOPS Chapter No. 617 in Topeka was host of the event.

¢The Wednesday Afternoon Bridge Club was directed by Virginia Seaver on Sept. 12. The North-South winners were Harry Shaffer and Ed Howard, followed by Klee Zaricky and Betty Collier at second in A and first in B. Sally Taylor and Yvonne Hedges placed third in A and second in B, with Phyllis Brownlee and Judy Bevan at first in C.

The East-West winners were Virginia Seaver and Shirley Reese, followed by Chuck Hedges and Paul Heitzman. Mark Osborn and Bobby Patton were third in A and first in B, with Grant Sutton and Catherine Blumenfeld at second in B and first in C. Wanna Roszel and Bebe Huxtable placed second in C.

¢The Friday Afternoon Bridge Club played a Mitchell movement at 12 tables directed by Virginia Seaver on Sept. 7. The North-South players were led by Chris Lane and Yvonne Hedges at first in A and B, followed by Jay Hildreth and Judy Hildreth at second in A. Julia Dalton and Lester Dalton were third in A and second in B, with Julia Brooks and Phyllis Brownlee at fourth in A. Klee Zaricky and Charles Hedges were fifth in A, with Harry Talley and Don Daugherty at first in C.

The East-West players were led by David Piro and Paul Heitzman at first in A, followed by Sally Taylor and Virginia Seaver. Ed Howard and John Fittell were third in A, while Dianne Childs and Polly Schoning were fourth in A and first in B.

Eldon Herd and Emily Foster were fifth in A and second in B, while Betty Collier and Shirley Reese were third in B. Gary Joyce and Bobby Patton placed second in B.

The club’s game on Sept. 14 was directed by Virginia Seaver. The North-South winners were Harry Shaffer and Grant Sutton at first in A, with Chris Lane and Kathy Eilenberger at second in A and first in B.

Lester Dalton and Betty Collier were third in A and second in B, followed by Sally Taylor and Klee Zaricky at fourth in A. Robert Anderson and Betty Spalsbury were first in C.

The East-West winners were Bobby Patton and Ed Howard first in A, with Jay Hildreth and Judy Hildreth at second in A. Lynn Hui and Catherine Blumenfeld were third in A and first in B and C, followed by Mona Bell and Madelyn Jenks at fourth in A and second in B and C. Shari Krentzel and Debbi Bettinger placed third in B.

¢The Pilot Club of Lawrence conducted its monthly meeting Sept. 10 at Stone Creek.

Guest for the evening was Andrea Babb, governor of the Kansas-Missouri District.

¢The Thursday Morning Bridge Club’s Mentor Game was directed by Chris Lane on Sept. 13.

Virginia Seaver and Florine Creek placed first, followed by Wanna Roszel and Nita Scales. Third place went to Pat Lechtenberg and Bebe Huxtable, with Chris Lane and Ann Tams in fourth place.

¢The Monday Evening Bridge Club played a Mitchell movement at nine tables directed by Virginia Seaver on Sept. 10.

The North-South winners were Larry Bodle and Kent McCullough, followed by Jeffrey Nash and Lois Jones. Julia Dalton and Lester Dalton placed third in A and first in B, with Earle Core and Albert Ballard at fourth in A, second in B and first in C. Phyllis Brownlee and Madelyn Jenks were second in C.

The club’s game Sept. 17 was directed by Virginia Seaver. The North-South winners were Ed Howard and Harry Shaffer at first in A, followed by Jean Otney and Mary Fenlon at second in A. Larry Bodle and Kent McCullough were third in A, while Lynn Hui and Jeane Landry placed fourth. Madelyn Jenks and Phyllis Brownlee were first in B and C, with Pat Burgstahler and Margarete Hartman at second in B and C.

The East-West winners were Jambo Zhang and Terry Tolar at first in A, B and C, while Paul Heitzman and Virginia Seaver were second in A. Donna Johnson and James Urich were third in A, followed by Jim Stewart and Jeffrey Nash at fourth in A and second in B. Craig Huneke and Jeremy Martin placed third in B.
