From the Lawrence Daily World for Sept. 17, 1907: "Business was brisker than it has been for a long time this morning in police court as Judge Louis Menger was kept busy dealing with a lot of longtime offenders including wife-beaters and drunks and those who had been found disturbing the peace. : Some of the finest horses to be found in the region are here for the races at the county fair that opens tomorrow night. The fairgrounds are lively and the lighting at the park has now been completed. : The old mill that has been a landmark at Perry for over 40 years has been destroyed by fire."
