The following is a list of current offerings by Douglas County Senior Services. Some programming for September that began before the publication date is not listed. Call the Lawrence Senior Center, 745 Vt., at 842-0543 for more information.

Open workshops

Woodshop: 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays. Fee: $1. Equipment available to work on projects. Facilitator Bill Grubbs must be present.

Sewing: Sewing machines, fabric, yarn, etc., available for your project. Open 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Computer lab: Do you have questions or need assistance? Call 842-0543 to make an appointment with a facilitator.

Creative classes

Health and fitness

Chair Exercise: 10:30 a.m.-11 a.m. Wednesdays and Fridays. Fee: none. Facilitator: Julia Galas.

Pickle Ball: 8:30 a.m.-10 a.m. Thursdays and Fridays. Fee: Free. Location: Lawrence Senior Center, multi-purpose room. Pickle ball is a court sport best described as a combination of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. It is a game that is senior-friendly, good exercise and fun to play.

Mystery Tour

11 a.m. departure Oct. 6 from the Senior Center. Cost: $62 per person. Join us on an exciting mystery tour to fun destination where you will experience the American classic fairytale and go back in time to the 1800s. Enjoy a delicious dinner. Jamesport, Mo. Amish Country

8:45 a.m. departure Oct. 22 from the Lawrence Holidome. Cost: $48 per person (lunch included). Return at 7 p.m. Join us on an exciting day trip to Amish country where you will enjoy the peaceful lifestyle of the Amish, visit the countryside and shop at the famous Amish stores. We will also visit the antique and craft shops. This trip is co-sponsored with Leisure Time Tours.

Hutchinson – Underground Salt Museum

7:30 a.m. departure Nov. 15 from Wal-Mart. Cost: $62 (lunch included) per person. Take an elevator ride 650 feet into the Salt Mines and board a tram for an hour tour of cavern where salt have been mined. Visit an underground museum. There will be comfortable chairs available for those who want to take a short break. This popular trip fills quickly, so call today to reserve your seat. Discover the French Riviera

Eight-day trip beginning Nov. 11. Cost: $1,449 for double occupancy. Highlights: Nice, Flower Market, Chagall Museum, Grasse, Perfumerie, St. Paul De Vence, Ventimiglia, San Remo, St. Tropez, Cannes, Antibes, Picasso Museum, Villefranche Rothschild Villa and Gardens, Monaco and Oceanographic. Stay at a five-star hotel. Included are six breakfast, four dinners and transportation.

Southern Charm Holiday

Six-day trip beginning Dec. 2. Highlights: Historic Charleston, Boone Hall Plantation Beaufort, Savannah, Factors Walk, St. Simmons Island and Jekyll Island. Price includes five breakfasts and three dinners, transportation and hotel accommodation at a five-star hotel.

Hot noon meals are served Monday through Friday to anyone 60 years old and their spouse, regardless of spousal age. Meals are served on a suggested donation rate of $2.50, but no one will be denied because of inability to pay. Please call one day in advance before 1 p.m. to reserve a meal for the following day. Volunteers also deliver these same meals to eligible homebound seniors. Locations and phone numbers are listed above.
