Public invited to tag monarch butterflies

Kansas University’s Monarch Watch this morning again will sponsor a butterfly-tagging event at Baker Wetlands.

From 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., those who are interested may come to the wetlands, along 31st Street between Haskell Avenue and Louisiana Street. Monarch Watch will provide tags, nets and instructions for anyone of any age who is interested in helping out.

Thousands of monarch butterflies stop in the area on their way to Mexico. The tags, which are collected when the butterflies die in Mexico, help Monarch Watch track the movement of the butterflies.
