Harley plants to close for week

? Harley-Davidson Inc. plans to shut down production at three Wisconsin factories for a week after Thanksgiving.

The company said late Friday that those plants include the power-train operations in Wauwatosa and Menomonee Falls and another in Tomahawk. Assembly plants in Kansas City, Mo., and York, Pa. also will shut down the week of Nov. 26.

The employees will not be paid for the week, company spokesman Bob Klein said.

Harley said a week ago that it would curb motorcycle production after dealer sales fell in August. The company said it was reducing the planned third-quarter shipments to between 86,000 and 88,000 motorcycles, down from its prior estimate of 91,000 to 95,000 bikes.

A company statement Friday said some factories “will take additional steps to achieve their production reductions,” but it provided no details.
