Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Sept. 14, 1907: “The university and Haskell Institute both are due to have strong football teams this fall. E.E. Parry from Chicago will be on the staff of KU’s head coach Bert Kennedy, and Bemis Pierce reportedly is working his Haskellites hard. Full practices are due to begin Sept. 18. : Police today broke up a lottery game at a local cafe before anyone lost any sizable amount of money. No arrests were made but residents are warned about confidence men working the town and cheating those who take part in their various games. : Officials say very few local children in the age 8-15 range do not attend school and that the local truant officer will have little to do this year.”
