Rain postpones Lawrence Invite

Lawrence High sophomore Elizabeth Simons returns a volley during a doubles match against Washburn Rural. The Lions completed three of their four scheduled matches against Washburn Rural and none against Topeka High or Topeka West before rain halted the Lawrence Invitational on Monday.

Afternoon rainshowers brought a halt to Lawrence High girl’s tennis quad on Monday.

The Lions completed three of four matches against Washburn Rural and had yet to face Topeka High and Topeka West before the meet was washed out.

In the No. 1 singles LHS’ Lucy Liu lost 8-0 while both doubles teams – No. 1 Elizabeth Simons and Marcy Vickers and No. 2 duo Lynn Chen and Jordany Payne – fell by the same score, 8-0.

Yoshika Crider was down 7-6 in the No. 2 singles match.

They quad not only will be pushed back to next Monday, but the meet also will move to Kossover Tennis Center in Topeka.

Lawrence will travel to Topeka prior to Monday’s meet when they participate in the Topeka Invitational on Wednesday.
