Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Sept. 11, 1907: “The water company has stopped pumping water from the river and is relying on local wells and Profs. Bushong and Starin of the university say the supply here is now safe to drink without boiling. The latest tests have been easily the most favorable in weeks and began to look better when there was an end to use of river water by the city company. The World reported last Aug. 29 about the fears and concerns and steps seem to have been taken with the aid of input by scientific people qualified to judge the water supply. : A coroner’s inquest has been held in the death of the 9-year-old boy, Marshall Tuttle of Sibley, due to a gun trip in a chicken house and the death has been ruled accidental with no element of criminal intent. The boy had gone to the chicken house to show his uncle the trap and thought it was not set. The door opened and he was killed instantly.”
