Beckett notches 18th win

Baltimore – Josh Beckett allowed two runs in seven innings to earn his 18th win, and the Red Sox completed another successful season at Camden Yards.

Coco Crisp singled home the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning, Mike Lowell drove in two runs and Dustin Pedroia had three hits for the Red Sox, who went 6-3 in Baltimore this year.

Beckett (18-6) yielded seven hits, struck out eight – including Brian Roberts three times – and walked none.

Twins 5, White Sox 2

Chicago – Jason Kubel hit a three-run homer and added an RBI single and Johan Santana struck out 10 in seven innings.

Jim Thome hit his 498th career home run, a solo shot in the eighth inning.

Devil Rays 3, Blue Jays 2

St. Petersburg, Fla. – Carl Crawford and Carlos Pena hit consecutive homers in the sixth, and James Shields allowed four hits through seven to lead the Devil Rays.

Tampa Bay has won four straight series for the first time since winning six straight in June 2004.

Al Reyes picked up his 23rd save in 25 opportunities.

Mariners 14, Tigers 7

Detroit – Ichiro Suzuki scored in each of the first four innings, and the Mariners won for only the second time in 15 games to remain five back of New York in the AL wild-card race.

Indians 6, Angels 2

Anaheim, Calif. – Ryan Garko hit a three-run homer, Asdrubal Cabrera had two RBIs and Cleveland beat Los Angeles to split a four-game series between AL division leaders.

Cleveland’s 13th victory in 16 tries increased its AL Central lead to six games over Detroit. The first-place Angels, who played without ailing right fielder Vladimir Guerrero again, have an eight-game cushion over Seattle in the AL West.

Rangers 12, Athletics 9

Arlington, Texas – Sammy Sosa hit a three-run homer to cap an eight-run second inning.

The shot, estimated at 442 feet, landed in the second deck.
