Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Sept. 8, 1907: “The many different tribes of Indians in the United States are represented by 650 bright boys and girls at Haskell Institute as the fall term begins. Attendance at Haskell has been steadily increasing and is getting near an over-taxing of the capacity. The majority of students probably come from the Indian Territory (Oklahoma) while the next largest number come from the Dakotas. : Baker University will begin its fall term on Sept. 10 and the new library building is now ready for occupancy. Work on the gymnasium is progressing rapidly and it is said to be the largest and finest in the West.”
